OROFACIAL MYOFUNCTIONAL THERAPY

At Dr Levi’s, everything we do begins with one goal: helping children grow into happy, healthy, thriving individuals.

We believe that proper breathing, sleep, and development during childhood create the foundation for lifelong health.

That’s why we take a comprehensive, airway-focused approach that looks beyond teeth alone and considers how the face, jaws, muscles, and airway work together.

What Is Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (OMT)?

Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (OMT) is a specialised therapy that focuses on the muscles of the face, mouth, tongue, and airway. These muscles play a vital role in how a child breathes, sleeps, eats, speaks, and grows.

When these muscles are not functioning properly, such as with mouth breathing, low tongue posture, tongue restrictions, or incorrect swallowing, growth, development, and airway health can be negatively affected.

OMT helps retrain these muscle patterns so they support healthy facial growth, stable development, and optimal airway function.

Why Do Orofacial Muscles Become Dysfunctional?

Orofacial muscles adapt to help a child breathe and function. When airway issues, mouth breathing, tongue restrictions, low muscle tone, prolonged oral habits, or structural limitations are present, muscles compensate by developing inefficient patterns. Over time, these compensations become automatic habits that can interfere with healthy growth, breathing, and development unless they are identified and retrained.

How OMT Supports Healthy Growth and Development

OMT helps the muscles of the face and mouth function in a way that supports:

  • Balanced jaw and facial growth

  • Improved airway health

  • Better sleep quality

  • Reduce mouth breathing, snoring, and grinding

  • Improved focus, energy, and overall wellbeing

By addressing muscle function early, we help guide development in a healthy direction.

Why Early Intervention Matters

A child’s face and airway are still developing. Identifying and correcting dysfunctional muscle patterns early can help reduce the risk of future issues such as:

  • Crowded teeth and orthodontic challenges

  • Sleep-disordered breathing or sleep apnea

  • Chronic mouth breathing

  • Jaw discomfort or TMJ concerns

  • Speech and swallowing difficulties

Early intervention supports healthier growth now and fewer complications later.

Our Commitment to Your Child

Our goal isn’t just to address concerns today, it’s to help children avoid future health challenges.
